The Best Rainy Day Activities for your Maui Vacation

The Best Rainy Day Activities for your Maui Vacation

Don’t let a rainy day in Maui bring you down. Try to avoid driving too far, including the Road to Hana, the beach, and any other water activities. I hate driving in the rain, and feel even more uneasy driving on roads that I’m not totally familiar with, especially if I don’t know if they’re prone to flooding. I also don’t love the idea of being in a boat during a storm. Just me?

Anyway, there’s still plenty to do on rainy days in Maui. Here’s a lineup of a few ideas:

Foodie Fun

Make it an opportunity to try some tasty bites. We used rainy days as a chance to indulge in shave ice, local coffee, and the restaurants near our hotel.

Don’t judge a book by the cover, try some Ugly Delicious Dishes we swear by.

Or go for the Insta-worthy eats with 10 places where the images will get you drooling.

Shopping

Staying indoors and getting those souvenirs is a perfect way to get out of the rain. We picked up some great children’s books to read and bring home. There’s a lot of shops to choose from, or visit Costco in Kahului to get all souvenirs like chocolate macadamia nuts, in bulk!

Maui Ocean Center

Enjoy the water without getting wet (or at least not too wet). The Maui Ocean Center has several exhibits to excite and educate you about the local marine life, including the new Humpbacks of Hawaii Exhibit & 3D Sphere.

Enjoy Live Music

There are a handful of places that have regularly scheduled live shows. We loved the ukulele and guitar performance by Stay Eazy at Monkeypod Kitchen in Wailea. There are plenty of options for slack key and acoustic shows. For live music and schedules, check out:

Escape Room

Test out your skills and work together as a team at Maui Escape Rooms. They have a few themes to choose from, making for a fun way to transport you to another era, while keeping you dry. You can book your Maui Escape Room visit with our site.

Bunker Escape Room

Indoor Playground / Activity Centers

Sometimes the keiki (kids) just need a place to play, get creative, or jump around.

Yoga / Spa Day

Maui has no shortage of spas and yoga options! For a unique yoga experience, check out Aquari-OM at the Maui Ocean Center. Bring your little yoginis – kids ages 5+ are welcome, too!

Or…you can just enjoy the sounds of the rainy day. The wind rustling the palm tree leaves and waves crashing on the beach, this a perfect lullaby.
